Trần Minh Quân

Tax accountant

“When a new rule comes out I read all of it and rewrite it as one page, because if I cannot explain it in a page I have not understood it.”

Quân studied accounting at the Academy of Finance in Hanoi and moved to Ho Chi Minh City for work in 2017. For his first two years he was the tax accountant at a trading company in Tân Bình, with a few hundred purchase invoices a month and only him to file them. That is where he learned to match invoices quickly without missing any, and what it feels like to still be at the desk at 8 pm on the 20th.

He joined Sổ Sách Sáng in 2019, and has now been doing tax work for nine years.

Who he works with

Quân handles the tax side for trading and service companies: monthly and quarterly VAT, PIT withheld from salaries, and quarterly provisional CIT. His clients include a plumbing and electrical supplies dealer, a small travel company and a chain of three cafés. He is also the second checker on most of Trang’s household returns before they are filed.

A habit

He keeps a notebook of every new tax document: its number, signing date, effective date and one line on “which clients this affects”. When Decree 252/2026/ND-CP moved the provisional CIT deadline to the last day of the month after the quarter, he had a one-page summary out to the team within two days, with a list of clients to message.

Before filing any VAT return he downloads the invoice list from the tax authority’s system and compares it with the books. If one invoice is out, he stops and finds it. He does not file first and amend later.

What he is reading

He is working through the Tax Administration Law 108/2025/QH15 chapter by chapter with Hạnh, and following the guidance on the new return forms that come with it. In the evenings he studies English so he can read the tax bulletins from the international audit firms, which often summarise new rules before the Vietnamese press does.
