General accountant

“Any set of books can be untangled if you start from the bank statements and never guess.”

Tài started in 2015 in the accounts team of a furniture workshop in what was then Bình Dương province, where he learned product costing, year-end stock counts and reconciling balances with dozens of suppliers. In 2016, when Hạnh needed someone to prepare financial statements, he joined Sổ Sách Sáng as the office’s second person. He has now been keeping books for eleven years.

## Who he works with

Tài keeps the books and prepares the annual statements for companies under 20 people: a 14-person packaging print shop in Tân Bình, an 8-person foreign-owned software company, and several small distributors. He also takes almost all of the office’s catch-up work on abandoned books. He writes monthly reports in English for foreign-owned clients.

## A habit

On the first day with a new client, the first thing he does is hand the owner a sheet listing every login and password for tax, e-invoices and the digital signature, all in the company’s name. Anh Khoa at the print shop had his digital signature held back by his previous firm when he left, so for him that sheet mattered more than any introduction.

Tài likes abandoned books. In 2024 he took on a trading company that had not kept books for three years, with only its filed returns and a box of invoices. He started from the bank statements, rebuilt each month, reconciled with the returns, and wrote the owner a list of periods that needed amended filings. It took seven weeks. When the tax inspectors came, the company had complete books to show them.

## What he is learning

He is practising short monthly reports in English for foreign-owned clients, written without jargon. He is also rereading the guidance on the 80% rule for provisional CIT, so he can estimate each client’s fourth-quarter payment in November.
