Sổ Sách Sáng is a five-person accounting office in Tân Định ward, Ho Chi Minh City, open since 2014\. We do tax and bookkeeping for companies under 20 people and household businesses, with one fixed accountant per client.

## It started in an audit firm

Nguyễn Thị Hạnh spent six years at an audit firm before she opened this office. Most of that time went on small and mid-sized companies, and she kept seeing the same thing: the books of a fifteen-person company passing through four accountants in three years. Each one recorded things differently. The next one did not know how the last had treated a loan. The owner had to explain the business from scratch every time someone new arrived.

Once she needed a client’s ledgers to check a balance, and the outsourced firm replied that the books “belonged to the office” and would cost a fee to release. The company’s e-tax account had been registered with the firm’s own email address. The owner could not log in to his own tax account.

In March 2014 she rented a small room, took on five clients and set two rules from the first day. They have not changed.

## One fixed accountant per client

Our clients know the name of the person who keeps their books, have that person’s Zalo, and that person does not change every year-end. Your accountant knows which months you sell most, which supplier always invoices late, and which loan came from a family member. None of that lives in the software. It lives with someone who has worked with you for a while.

When your accountant is on leave, a colleague who has already read your file covers, and you are told who in advance.

## Records stay in the client’s name

Ledgers, returns, the e-tax account and the digital signature are always in the name of the company or household owner. We are only authorised users. You can change the password whenever you like, and if you leave we hand everything over within five working days at no charge. That is in the contract, along with one more line: penalties caused by our mistakes are paid by us.

## Five people, and how we work

The office grew with demand, not to a plan. Phạm Đức Tài joined in 2016, when there were more financial statements than one person could sign. Trần Minh Quân joined in 2019 to run the tax side. Lê Thu Trang joined in 2022, as household businesses started asking about e-invoices. Võ Ngọc Mai joined in 2023 to handle company setups and changes.

Every Monday morning the five of us meet for 30 minutes: which deadlines fall this week, who is still missing documents, which new rules need reading. When a new circular comes out, Quân reads it first and rewrites it as one page for everyone.

Every return passes through two people: the one who prepares it and one who checks it before filing. Every financial statement is read and signed off by Hạnh. Each accountant keeps only as many clients as they can know by name, so in some months we ask a new client to start the following month rather than take them on at once.

We work in Vietnamese and English. Monthly reports can be in English, and the team members who speak it are listed on the team page.

## The office in Tân Định

We are on the third floor of 116 Trần Quang Khải, Tân Định ward. Before July 2025 this was District 1, and many people still call it that. Tân Định market is a few minutes’ walk away. Plenty of clients bring documents in person and have a cup of tea while their accountant goes through the papers. Clients further away work with us over Zalo and email and only come in to sign.

We work Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 17:30\. We do not file returns at midnight, because a return done tired is a return done wrong.

## What we will not do

- Buy or sell invoices, or cover costs with invoices that have no real transaction behind them.
- Keep two sets of books, one for the tax office and one for the owner.
- Promise to “sort things out” with tax officials. We explain with documents, not connections.
- Backdate documents.
- Hold a client’s records to collect a fee.
- Audit. When a client needs one, we introduce an independent audit firm.

Some clients have left over these. We accept that. The ones who stay tend to stay for years.
